In 2021, Eumundi ran a competition that asked people to come up with beer ideas that captured story and flavour combinations inspired by the Sunshine Coast. They then brewed the winning entrant’s beer, but that wasn’t the end of it. A recipe idea from Sunny Coast local Deb Munro captured the imaginations of the brewers, and they went on to brew Trinity Sour for GABS 2022... and now it’s out in tinnies.
A pineapple, ginger and macadamia sour is about as Sunny Coast as it gets. Lifted notes of ginger and pineapple fill the air, and if I'm being honest, even before smelling the beer, I predicted the macadamia wouldn’t come through. But then I took a sip – the taste proved to be drier than the sweet smell, the sour proved to be just a gentle balancing tartness, and the macadamia’s nuttiness did come through.
Don’t expect a multi-ingredient tropical cocktail here – this is a crisp and dry and refreshing sour that begs to be knocked back on a wraparound verandah on a humid afternoon.
