One of the lovely things about the rise of small breweries in so many parts of the country is their desire to showcase their fellow local producers. That's the case here as Noodledoof – based in Koroit in Victoria's west – take their export stout and give it a twist courtesy of cocoa from Grounded Pleasures and Tower Hill cherries. It's akin to the approach they took with one of their first, if not their very first, barrel-aged beers.
Here, the adjuncts are delivered with subtlety: the toasted coconut and cocoa seem to soften the roastier elements you might expect to find in an export stout, while the cherry adds a Black Forest gateaux like top note, and the whole package goes down rather easier than its nigh on 7 percent ABV might suggest.
