The Two Birds limited release range seems to have found a bit of a rhythm since moving to 500ml cans earlier in 2021, with the Flights of Fancy beers soaring from Spotswood every few months and showcasing what the brewers at the Nest have been keen to experiment with and explore. For the end of 2021, the exploration has been focused on hops and has led them to Hazy As Flock, with the beer combining Ekuanot (in Incognito form) with Idaho 7 and El Dorado, while the name lives up to Two Birds’ long-running love of puns.
Here the hop combination is heavy on the pineapple juice, as if a particularly ripe one from mid-summer has been squeezed directly into the beer. Alongside that is a further tropical hit of underripe mango, some stonefruit and a fair bit of tart citrus, which the brewery calls tangerine but to my mind, is a little closer to tangelo. Add in a touch of sweetness that combines with the bitterness upon the smooth and soft base and you have a motherflocker ready for summer.
