Margaret River Brewhouse 3 Sours Of Power: Apricot & Inside Out 2021

Margaret River Brewhouse

Released March 12, 2021

Hot off the heels of their first release for 2021, Drifter Blood Orange Gose, comes yet another fruited sour from the team at Margaret River Brewhouse. On this occasion, however, the fruit is apricot, and the style is a clean and simple kettle sour.

3 Sours of Powers is a recurring offering from the South West brewers featuring some variation with each release. This edition features more than 100kg of apricot puree, added midway through the ferment to boost acid while retaining fresh fruit character. As you might expect, apricot is very evident – vibrant on a clean, light and balanced sour base beer. Hops aren’t particularly evident, but some faint noble character delicately amplifies earthen and stonefruit character in one of the brewery's most alluring releaseas yet.

Also leaving their beach shack home is a fresh batch of their Inside Out IPA. And despite being brewed in much the same way as the last, a completely new flavour profile features. This time around, Inside Out is mango and pine heavy with underlying tropical fruit flavours and a trademark Strata dankness. Big hops is the MO but a complex malt bill integrates well with the 48 IBUs, yielding balance and working well with hop-derived grapefruit characters.

With heavy dry hopping and 6.5 percent ABV, Inside Out is on the bigger and bolder side of the IPA spectrum but is brewed with balance and complexity in mind. A long-lasting, malt-heavy finish with residual citrus notes ensures enjoyment continues well after each sip.
