From no can releases a year ago to a steady steam today, Tallboy & Moose have certainly embraced tinnies, with three new ones arriving this week alone. First up, I tried the Wet Hop American Pale, a collaboration with the crew at Holmes Hall, the not-yet-opened Moonee Ponds beer hall beside Fizz & Hop (and run by the same crew). The wet hop beer features Cascade hops from AC Hops, a small Ballarat hop grower, with those fresh hops providing a floral, slightly piney and soft grapefruit taste in what, to my mind, is a very classic American pale.
Royal Fang is a twist on Tallboy’s red IPA from last month, The Frang. This version’s got the added bergamot twist courtesy of Earl Grey tea and, aside from that addition, it’s close to the previous release with grapefruit and orange balancing the beer’s sweet ruby red base.
Finally, there’s the American brown Ursu Major. It’s on the richer end of the brown ale spectrum with chocolate and some molasses amid the malt profile with Centennial and Ella hops bringing citrus and spice.
