Hope Brewery may be nestled in the Hunter Valley, but it only takes an hour to get from the brewery doors to the beaches of Newcastle. So while they’re surrounded by one of Australia’s most beautiful wine regions, I suppose we still can’t blame them if, like many of us, the brewers occasionally have the ocean on their mind.
And that's how Newy Pacific Ale was born. If you see it on tap, the decal will delight you with a detailed beach scene including a peace Kombi, a couple of Newcastle jets flying overhead, and an empty container ship coming in to port. But if it’s a can you’ve got your hands on, the design is a simpler one: a clean expanse of blue and white with the sun peeking up over the horizon. When it comes to a beer made for looking out over the Pacific, why complicate things?
Mosaic and Galaxy hops bring fruit candies to the nose, with more of the same on the palate, joined by a gentle grassiness. Low bitterness fades to an incredibly easy finish, giving you the same feeling as writing your troubles in the sand and letting the waves wash them away.
