The Appalachian Mountains are like the Energizer Bunny - they keep going, and going, and going. They go beyond being a mountain range and into being a system of mountain ranges, a topographical beast that stretches over sixteen states in the USA and reaches into Canada. But this monster is a gentle giant, affording huge areas of near silence and peace as the clouds settle among the kilometre-high peaks and the mist seeps into every valley and crevice it can find.
It’s this embracing peace of the mountains, rather than their behemoth stature, that Wayward’s Appalachian Mist Hazy IPA has managed to capture. Its fogginess is calm and calming as it brings its aromas to seep slowly to wherever they’re welcome: orange juice, overripe grapefruit and a soft tropical tang. The flavours are like the early morning mist surrounding a cabin in the mountains - they arrive in smooth splendour without fuss or fanfare, settle, and then melt away quietly in their own time, leaving nothing but a sense that all is right with the world.
