Ocean Reach have a tendency to go quite boozy with their IPAs but Shredalotl takes them in a different direction. Before we talk about the beer, let’s all give a moment of respect for the chosen name and the skateboarding axolotl on the can design, who feels like they would be an excellent minor character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As for the Coastal IPA, the 5.8 percent ABV beer is low when it comes to Ocean Reach West Coasts but was brewed so you could enjoy much of what you might love about a bold IPA without the immediate need to nap after drinking a 500ml can (maybe I’m just getting old). Brewed with Talus, Azacca and Centennial hops this amphibian shreds with juicy stone fruit, passionfruit, grapefruit and pine while a crisp and clean finish ensures it’s light enough to airwalk.
Aztec Haze meanwhile is Ocean Reach meanwhile with the IPA a soft and lush affair staring Azacca and Idaho 7 hops. Those two American bring waves of nectarine, orange juice, zesty lime, green grape and a floral and tongue-coatingly fuzzy touch.
