The brewers at Gage Road’s breezy venue coastal venue have been playing with the West Coast pilsner style for a while, and theirs is one which also draws from an "It coulda been a contender" draught-only Italian pilsner release from early 2020. Now, with WA’s independent retailers Liquor Barons on board, these hoppy lager musings have made their way into a packaged release.
Shore Break is the kind of moderately hop forward and wonderfully arid beer that could easily slot into a brewery's core range, or appear as a regular summer seasonal; typing this in 30-plus degree, dry WA heat during the first week of December presents a journalistic challenge with each increasingly frequent gulp!
For now, however Citra Cryo, Simcoe Cryo, Saphir and Mount Hood hops provide citrusy sweet grapefruit and light piney basal characters that weave through light, fresh malt before a conclusion that vaults fine bitterness and runs almost assertively dry – in the best way.
