Pikes’ IPA has always been the boldest statement in the Clare Valley brewery’s core range and, as the marketplace changes, so has the recipe … slightly. The change comes in the form of traditional America hops, Citra, Amarillo and Cascade, with the intention being to bring their IPA in line with American classics.
Taste wise, there isn’t a hugely noticeable difference from the previous version, although it is definitely more refined. The hops go to work earlier, leeching out big bitter orange peel aromas, with just a little resin floating around. The citrus morphs into juicy orange marmalade, with a touch of citrus sweetness, a decent bitterness, and a moreish, dry finish.
