Life can feel like a hamster wheel at times. We run and we run, but we don’t seem to be getting any further ahead; instead, we’re caught in that same loop where the direction we should be heading always remains unclear. Inner North Brewing’s Hamster Wheel Didactics might be as hazy as our journey through life, but rather than being stuck in a rut, it’s a tribute to lessons learned.
The hazy IPA was created by the Brunswick brewery’s Zack Skerrit as his team was all hit by COVID. While it was a tough week, it was a moment to apply knowledge built up over some years. Largely, that wisdom was one of malt balance, with just the right amount of oats to provide an incredibly lush but still light-on-its-feet beer that’s a gentle introduction to a modern medley of hops. Those are America’s Citra and New Zealand’s Wai-iti and Nectaron, which all bring a carton’s worth of tropical fruit juice that includes pineapple, guava, and passionfruit, while sweet blood orange jumps on that wheel with us. Stuck in one place? Good thing there’s haze to guide you through.
