I love a seasonal beer and it’s not because I get paid every year to write up the same beer (I was overseas this time last year anyway). I love seasonal beers because that's the way many beers were once consumed, giving drinkers something to look forward to at the changing of every season. In the case of the beer I've been enjoying as spring 2024 arrives in Australia, it's Miami Weisse, a hefeweizen from 7th Day Brewery.
Pouring the straw colour of lemonade sold on a street corner by kids in an American sitcom (but with a foamy head), Miami Weisse pulses with funky aromas of wheat, banana and orange peel. On the tongue, it's sweet and spiky, the fruity notes balanced by an almost sour tang and hit of clove.
At 4.8 percent ABV, this iteration of 7th Day’s Oktoberfest brew comes in a little lighter than previous years but certainly does not skip on the flavour profile to the point I thought it was rather heavier. All in all, a seasonal release for which it's worth routinely waiting 11 months.
