At first glance, naming Feral’s Chilling in the Name Of may seem like a punny, pop culture reference that befits the kind of crisp West Coast pils, Cali or cold style of IPA that’s drawing drinkers back into refreshment with hoppy attitude. All are well-founded assumptions, especially once you’ve tried the beer, but there's more at play; perhaps bigger metaphors around glacial élan, with the referenced Rage Against The Machine track’s refrain suggesting that the Bassendean brewers are still very much feral inside.
Maybe.
In the meantime, there’s a very nimble, El Dorado and Centennial-driven crusher in the glass, one with far more drinkability than its 6 percent-plus ABV has any right to be offering. Indeed, the team suggest "big hop notes, balanced approach and crisp finish", and there’s little dispute from my end on those. Add in some pithy citrus, piney resin and subtle melon-like tropical notes and Chilling In The Name Of is dynamic, direct and well placed for those who won’t do what they’re told to.
