When Helios first came to life, owner Scott Schumer wanted Poseidon to be a pale ale that reminded him of his home California; it was pumping with American hops and had a solid malt profile boosting the sweetness.
But plenty has changed since 2018. Pale ales have evolved, Helios have evolved, and Poseidon has evolved. Nowadays, the king of the sea is dry and fruity and full of life, pointing his trident more in the direction of New Zealand, summoning Motueka and Nelson Sauvin hops to bring their Antipodean vibrancy to join Citra’s zestiness.
Poseidon is light gold and button bright, shining like the sun hitting the surface of the water. Passionfruit and citrus peel sparkle across the waves before running aground with a soft earthy bitterness.
