Blackman's are celebrating turning ten in 2024 and how else would the brewery celebrate other than with a whole bunch of hops spread across two IPAs? One of those beers likely needs no introduction for Blackman's true believers: Angry Reg is the double IPA that returns every year. Pouring with a golden amber hue, the tenth birthday edition brings an all-American lineup of Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and the concentrated hop blend Cryo Pop. Dive in and you'll find stacks of orange and grapefruit, sticky resin and pine, a herbal edge and a lasting bitterness.
Hang 10, meanwhile, is a birthday IPA named after a phrase we can safely assume the Torquay crew must use dozens of times a day (it's also out just before their own beer festival, Point Break). It marks the moment with a distinct hop addition for each year the brewery's been alive; the chosen hops throughout that process are Ella, Motueka, Galaxy, Citra (in Cryo form) and the Pink Boots blend. Join the lupulin party and you'll find a lively tropical mix that moves between mango and passionfruit and gives off plenty of lime, with further orange citrus and a dry finish.
Happy birthday, Blackman's, here's to many more hops to come.
