The revival of traditional English beers styles has made it to Koroit in Victoria's west. And, given the town's long association with Ireland, one imagines darker beers with malt flavours to the fore shouldn't be too hard a sell. Noodledoof's English Mild delivers on both of those: dusty, chocolate shot through with a hint of burnt bread crust combines with a gentle bitterness to give you a session beer designed for winter.
Of a more contemporary ilk is Fresh Hop IPA 2024 Edition, which sees the brewers combine fresh hops grown at Noodles' (co-owner Sam Rudolph) farm with some Eclipse from the Victorian High Country. The beer sits in classic West Coast territory: darker in hue than many contemporary IPAs with a touch of pine, pineapple and dark citrus rising from the caramel malts.
Take a swig and you'll find a nicely judged balance of piney hops, slightly sweet malts. and a broad earthy bitterness to taste in what's a worthy follow up to one of my favourite IPAs of 2023.
