It's around this time of year that Sailors Grave release their whale hunt-referencing Law of the Tongue stout, a beer that features both smoked oysters and sunrise limes. For winter 2024, it arrives with a companion piece: a stout that's rather more line and length both in conception and consumption.
Lighthouse is an oatmeal stout and a damn fine example of "does just what it says on the tin". The first note I made after the initial sniff and sip was: "as clear a demo of choc and roasted malt barley as you could wish for"; check the can and their liner notes read: "easy drinking with roasted & chocolatey malts".
It doesn't need much more written about it than that: Lighthouse is an enjoyable drinking stout with a hint of dried dark fruit, a dusting of dark cacao, and a smooth finish which reminds me of James Squire's Jack of Spades Porter.
