I hope this doesn’t rile anyone up too much.
Brisbane Brewing Co Woolloongabba, in its beautiful heritage building on Clarence Corner, is independent. But while the majority of the taps are pouring Brisbane Brewing Co beers, there's still a few macro taps for the diehard lager punters.
You’ve got to understand: there’s been a hotel pub here since 1863. Heck, the current building’s been there since 1889. There are people who’ve been coming to this spot for a drink for decades, and plenty of customers who come here wanting a session of familiar, super crisp lagers – and the venue owners respect that. But that doesn’t mean they won’t give people the chance to support local.
Enter BNE Lager: BBCo’s answer to the macro lagers. It’s pale as anything, and approachable as anything: super light and crisp, with a soft malt profile and low bitterness. When it comes to the beer’s description, the brewers don’t talk about the hop varieties or historical origins of the style (a rice lager, by the way); they just tout it as: “A no nonsense, sensible and super drinkable mid strength beer.” And in the Woolloongabba pub, it’s gaining popularity – to the point where it now gives The Beer With The Big Fish a run for its money.
If you want to drink easygoing lagers, go for your life. Here’s your chance to support a local Brisbane business while you do.
